The Dipolog City Council recently
approved a resolution asking Mayor Roberto Uy to declare every
last Saturday of the month of January to be the “Sinulog Day.”
The councilors have agreed to formally
declare, through an executive order, that the last Saturday of
this January would be the time for the city to celebrate Sinulog,
which is already a 13-year tradition of Dipolog.
Councilor Cesar Romero, the city
council’s majority floor leader, is the author of the resolution.
Romero said that his act does not go beyond the boundary of the
separation between the government and the Church because this does
not affect any policy of both institutions.
Romero added that this would help the
city’s tourism with an exact schedule for the Dipolog Sinulog.
This way, the councilor said, tourists would then be aware that
the celebration of Sinulog in the Orchid City is every last
Saturday of January. |
